ABOUT ASHLEY

Hi, I'm Ashley Neild. I'm the Owner of Brighter Days Counseling and a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I'm also a Licensed Behavior Specialist in Pennsylvania and a Foundational Theraplay Practitioner. I work with Children, Teens, and Families who have difficulty managing feelings, poor social skills, and family struggles. My goal is to help stop the meltdowns, teach children how to make/maintain friendships, and reduce family conflicts.

My Journey To Becoming A Therapist

My own growth through personal life struggles is what helps me relate so deeply with my clients.

My parents divorced when I was a very young child. I had big feelings that I didn’t always know how to handle so I became the therapist that a younger me wished she had.

My life experiences are what lead me to become the Therapist I am today.

Helping People Gives My Life Meaning

Being a Therapist is fulfilling. I love planting seeds to help children of all abilities bloom and grow. The most rewarding thing about being a Therapist is knowing that I contributed to making a difference in kid's lives. I am committed to facilitating positive change.

I have empathy and compassion for children who have big feelings and their parents who are doing their best to raise independent adults. I bring warmth, understanding, and playfulness to my sessions.

I have a natural ability to help children understand what they are feeling, teach them how to handle life's stressors, and help parents to build strong attachments with their children. Building strong attachments between parent and child is a pivotal moment in the therapeutic process and in building a child's positive mental health.

People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can be fully present for children's stories, even if they are difficult stories. These listening skills are what make the children I work with feel seen and this ignite the process of change.

Our Sessions Are Focused On You

Sessions will provide you and your child with the space to be understood and heard. In feeling safe and comfortable, you all will be able to be yourselves and feel what you need to feel.

It's important to me to provide a non-judgmental space where you can be yourselves and create safety within sessions. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to counseling. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

EXPERIENCE

I have been a therapist for 15 years. Over the course of the that time I have worked in higher levels of care with children and adolescents who are significantly struggling with their mental health. I have traveled to see children in their natural environments of home, school, and in the community. While I loved working in these settings, I have enjoyed slowing down and dedicating my time to helping children and families in a more relaxed and cozy setting.

I have extensive experience collaborating with others who are part of children's support systems including teachers, school psychologists, ST, OT, PT, psychiatrists, social workers, and many more. I have attended many IEP meetings over the years for clients and now for my own child. I have a strong background in reading IEPS and offering social/emotional/behavioral supports to plans to make sure children's mental health needs are met within the school setting.

I have also worked with teenagers and young adults who are struggling with dating violence. As a survivor of dating violence myself, I have empathy and compassion for those in difficult situations. I have experience in giving talks to high school and college students on the topic of Dating Violence and have shared my personal and professional insight to youth who may see the warning signs in their own relationships.

Lastly, I have experience working with families who have neurodiversity and medical needs. For nearly 4 years, I worked to provide therapy to children with neurodiversity such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorder. I have a particular passion for working with children who are non-verbal. Just because someone doesn't have a voice doesn't mean they don't deserve to feel heard.
